India Energy Stack Initiative to Enable Interoperable Power Sector Systems

India Energy Stack (IES) is envisioned as a digital blueprint for the power sector as a whole, so that the disparate parts of the power system can connect and communicate through standard protocols. The Ministry of Power has constituted a task force with representatives from ministries, state utilities, regulators, generation companies, transmission companies and other stakeholders to prepare the roadmap, components and design of the IES.

The stack will lay down protocols and specifications to enable interoperability across the power sector value chain so that data, services and systems can work together. Distribution utilities in Delhi, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Mumbai have been identified for pilot implementation, with demonstration planned in FY 2026–27.

The total fund allocated for the development of the India Energy Stack is ₹51.3 crore, of which ₹3.88 crore has been released. This information was given by Minister of State in the Ministry of Power, Shri Shripad Naik, in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha.
