BRICS 2026: India Releases Four Compendiums on Sustainable Lifestyles, Wildfire Management and Circular Economy

India, under its BRICS 2026 Chairship, released four environmental knowledge compendiums at the 12th BRICS Environment Ministers’ Meeting. The documents cover sustainable lifestyles, integrated fire management, landscape-based greening, and circular economy and Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) frameworks.

1. The Compendium on Sustainable Lifestyles brings together practices from BRICS countries on sustainable consumption, environmental education, community participation, circular economy, ecosystem restoration and clean energy. India’s contributions include Mission LiFE, the Environment Education Programme and the SAMBHAV Campaign.

    2. The Compendium on Integrated Fire Management covers approaches to wildfire prevention, preparedness, early warning, response and recovery. It includes practices involving community participation, indigenous knowledge, technology and coordinated fire management.

    3. The Compendium on Integrated Landscape-Based Greening Approaches presents approaches to address land degradation, desertification, biodiversity loss and climate change through ecosystem restoration and landscape-level interventions. It also identifies areas for knowledge sharing, capacity building, research and monitoring.

    4. The Compendium on EPR Frameworks and Circular Economy Practices covers waste management policies, EPR systems, digital traceability, recycling, waste-exchange platforms and circular economy models across BRICS countries. It highlights India’s digital EPR framework and identifies opportunities for cooperation on traceability, technical capacity and circular business models.
